How To Get Mad

There are many ways to get mad. I feel that my mission these days is to ignore most of them. This image (below) came through my inbox this week and the mad-response simply could not be contained. A big multinational — Danone (the yogurt marketer) — owns Evian, which sells water, a free natural resource, bottled in plastic and shipped around the world. Now, as that lurid image below shows, they are trying to bait children into a lifetime bottled-water habit. In this case, the ever-baiting Disney is complicit. These insane, unneeded, polluting bits of commercial odiousness represent much of what is wrong with humanity these days. Danone and Disney both have “environmental policies” and contribute to causes of one kind or another. Danone promotes the recycling of plastic, although their bottles have zero recycling value in practical terms. And they completely ignore the imperative not to treat the Earth as a sewer for profit.

Mad? You bet. It’s getting harder and harder to resist the impulse.
